Insomnia


General Information on Insomnia

Insomnia is a condition characterized by a chronic inability to fall asleep to stay sleeping. Victims of insomnia are often awake very late in the evening and awake very early in the morning. Medically, there are three degrees of insomnia which are categorized by their levels of severity and lasting duration. These categories are transient, which only lasts for a shot-while, often only a few days, short-term, which lasts less than three weeks, and chronic, which must last longer than three weeks. This condition may occur at any age but is most common in the elderly.

Sleep that is followed by wakefulness that is accompanied by frightening or anxiety-driven thoughts

Treatments For Insomnia

Insomnia is typically not a permanent condition, however treatment may be necessary in order to help regulate sleeping patterns and relieve resulting or underlying conditions. These methods generally include counseling and drug therapy. Try to abstain from over the counter sleeping aids. They can be addictive and often only provide temporary relief.
