Impetigo

General Information on Impetigo

Also known as pyoderma, impetigo is a common bacterial infection of the skin that affects the epidermis and upper layers of the skin. This condition can occur at any age but is most common in infants and young children

Symptoms of Impetigo

Symptoms of impetigo include a red rash that is often accompanied by several small blisters. These blisters often contain pus and may form a yellow crust resulting from fluid leakage and daily agitation. Rashes caused by impetigo are localized. This means that they do not spread or grow over time. In addition, on rare occasions, a mild fever may accompany the infection. If you or your child are experiencing these symptoms, consult your doctor for further examination.
