Herpangina
General Information on Herpangina
Herpangina is a virus of the mouth and throat. It often appears very similar to canker sores, herpes, or strep throat, though other symptoms generally appear in addition to the tissue eruptions located at the site of infection that resemble those of the flu or other viral infections. This condition is most prominent in children between the ages of 1 and 10 years of age.
Symptoms of Herpangina
Symptoms often include:
Fever
Sore throat (accompanied by swelling and redness)
Blisters or sores located in the mouth and/or throat
Pain or discomfort while swallowing
Overall feeling of “illness’
Vomiting, stomach pain, or nausea (occasionally)
Treatments For Herpangina
Medical treatment is generally unnecessary. Self-care, rest, and healthy foods are generally the best way to aid the body’s natural recovery process. If sores and pain persist talk to your doctor for further consultation. In some cases, medications may prescribed for pain and symptoms relief.
