Chickenpox
General Information on Chickenpox
Chickenpox, which are medically referred to as “Varicella”, is a very contagious condition that is caused by the herpes zoster virus. Chicken pox are most common in children. This can generally be attributed to the fact that chicken pox are generally only acquired once in a human’s lifetime. This is because chicken pox are symptomatically caused by a virus that, after contracted once, elicit antibodies within humans that keep previously infected humans immune to further infection. However, in some rare cases the herpes zoster virus may become laden from clinical observation as it becomes dormant within the body. If this occurs, symptoms will be extinguished by the immune system until the virus relapses within the body. Once relapsed, the infected patient may believe that they have contracted the virus for a second time. This, however, is not possible as the re-emergence of symptoms are actually the result of the virus’ laden cycle reaching its end. This viral relapse generally lasts between 1 and 2 weeks until the immune system has finally rid the body of the virus.
Symptoms of Chickenpox
Symptoms appear suddenly and are considerably worse in adults than in children. These symptoms include:
Bumps or ‘skin eruptions’ that appear throughout the entire body
Fever
Blisters caused by collapsed skin eruptions before new clusters have began to spirt
Abdominal pain
Other feelings of illness that may resemble symptoms similar to those related to the influenza virus
Fatigue
Muscle aching
Treatments For Chickenpox
Medical treatment is usually not needed except in certain, more sever, circumstances. If decided upon by your doctor, drug therapy may be prescribed to catalyze the body’s natural healing process. Complications from chicken pox are very rare.
