Cervical Cancer
General Information on Cervical Cancer
Cervical cancer is a form of cancer that is located in the cervix, a part of the reproductive system in women. Though this cancer can occur in all women, it is most common in women between the ages of 40 and 50 years of age. Odds of developing cervical cancer greatly increase with promiscuity and underage intercourse.
Symptoms of Cervical Cancer
As is generally the case with cancer, cervical cancer has a tendency not to display any signs in the early stages of its development. As the cancer grows so will the severity of the symptoms. Symptoms often include:
Pain in the hip and thigh area
Pelvic pail
Bleeding or spotting between menstrual periods
Extreme or heavy menstrual periods
Abdominal pain
Pain aggravated by intercourse
Bleeding after intercourse
Vaginal discharge
Anemia
Weakness
Fatigue
Loss of appetite
Weight loss
Feces and urine leakage from vagina
Treatments For Cervical Cancer
Surgery conducted in order to remove the cancerous region is the first step considered in the treatment of cervical cancer. If diagnosed early enough in the cancer’s development, patients may still maintain their capacity to bear children. However, if the cancer has spread throughout the entire cervix, treatment may involve surgically removing the cervix completely, which will eliminate any future possibilities of conception. If the cancer is detected after it has spread into other reproductive organs, treatment will often demand the removal of these organs or of the entire reproductive system. This process is referred to as a radical hysterectomy. If decided necessary, chemotherapy and radiation may also be used to stifle or reverse cancerous growth. If not treated early enough, cervical cancer may spread to other, more vital organs, which may result in further complications including increased treatment difficulties or even death. If you have been experiencing the symptoms listed above talk to your doctor immediately for further testing and professional diagnosis.
