Hypercholesterolemia (high Cholesterol)

General Information on Hypercholesterolemia (high Cholesterol)

Hypercholesterolemia, commonly referred to as “high cholesterol,” is a condition characterized by total cholesterol levels that are higher than what is considered to be in “healthy range.” Cholesterol, very similarly to fat, carries through the blood stream to aid in several functions throughout the human body. As is also the case with fat, receiving too high a level of cholesterol can lead to several serious health complications. Cholesterol levels within humans are comprised of the cholesterol produced naturally by the liver, as well as those consumed from foods such as eggs, meat, and dairy products.

Treatments For Hypercholesterolemia (high Cholesterol)

Treatment for patients with high cholesterol generally involves a regimented series of lifestyle changes settled upon by doctor and patient that aim to lower cholesterol levels and improve overall health in order to help reduce the risk of stroke and/or heart attack. Some of these changes may include increase in exercise, dietary alterations, weight loss, and quitting smoking and drinking. In some cases drug therapy may be administered. If you are an adult who thinks that you may have high cholesterol levels, talk to your doctor for further consultation.
